Just switched from inferno pistols (listed as Short Range in their ability tooltips) and the meltagun (listed as medium range in its tooltips). Both show on the tactical display as having the same range, and trying to fire the meltagun at something just outside the range of the inferno pistols results in moving towards it.

Either the tooltips are incorrect, or the actual range is set incorrectly.
