If I purchase one of the lower-end pledge tiers, can I later on upgrade to a higher tier (for example, subtracting the cost of the lower tier from the higher tier), or will I have to pay full price for the higher tier later on?

Others asked this too. In the future to my best knowledge there will be an option for that.

Probably in May, but it's not a promise.
