Leveling is extremely slow

24

I'm at lvl 37 now. For lvl 38, i need 10.000 XP. Normal missions give anything between 300-600 XP. Basically the same when i was lvl 1 i think. The XP from missions doesn't scale up with character level, or difficulty (power level) of the mission, except the Tarot. When i did a power level 1100 mission with 960 power and rushed, it gave me 350ish XP and 6 Glory...

To make a Tarot quest, i need 110 Glory. One normal mission gives 6-11 Glory, depend on how many mobs killed (i think).

So to create one Tarot, i need to do 14-15 missions. With average 8 min clear, thats 2 hours + the wait time between missions, selling etc. 14 missions with average 450 XP each  + 2900 from Tarot is ~9200 XP, not even enough for one level, not to mention the 450 XP average and 8 min clear is pretty optimal for me, the average is probably worse.

I have no idea how many XP need for 1 level on higher Ranks, but the thought i need to farm 26-30 hours more at the very least for lvl50 doesn't make me happy at all. Today i played 1 hour doing normal missions, and i progressed 25% of my XP bar.

Making alt characters seems totally impossible for me, as much as i love the game, no damn way i would farm another 50 hours (at least) for another lvl50 toon.

Now, one can say that there is no end game content currently, so leveling is all we have. But after we get the Warzone, new players with casual game time need to grind weeks only to hit 50 and able to play end game?

In which way is this a good idea? Should make Tarot cost way less Glory, or mission XP scale up way more.

You also played a broken class doing that.  Try it with the class that isn't broken.

Did this with my melee Crusader, no problem at all with Nurgle missions.

BUT

I'm in my mid thirties and so tired. Go PL +500 (800 and go 1300) missions and get ridiculous 200 extra points - 600+ per mission. The event missions are green and give 400 points per mission. I'm sorry but I'm working. I've been longing for this game as a hobby. However, the crawl through the levels is not "relaxing" in the constant repetition. Grinding for the perfect equipment, the best item, the super special recipe, no thing and perfectly fine. But to leveling bread crumbs as a reward for daylong repetition? You can certainly improve that somehow.

I just made 8 levels yesterday. It's too fast.
You may want to specify your level and process. I'm in my mid 20's, and there's no way I could do 8 levels in one day unless I'm spamming Tarot runs with a broken build, and right now I'm saving my Tarot for the higher levels once i get done with the story missions.

SIde note: we shouldn't have to waste all our Fate just to level at a decent speed. Those should be something you do above and beyond. I'd prefer XP to be higher on the side missions and less XP in Tarot runs, but more loot in the Tarot. Tarot should be what you do for high end loot farming, not just so you can level w/o making your eyes bleed.

In the process of doing the weekend event, I realized this was another area the Devs could capitalize on. No clue if there's bonus XP as part of the rewards (personal or overall), but they could have bonus XP on side missions, as an example, as part of the weekend events.

I made an account just so I could reply to this.

As long as you have story missions the leveling is fine and you feel like you are advancing.

But after that it's just painful. Why do you want players to play un rewarding missions just to get to stuff that advances your character? It doesn't make sense.

I understand longevity but I'm a grown man, I don't have time to grind for hours for a marginal increase in progress. That feels like you don't respect my time.

I bought the game, I love playing it but seriously.

You said yourself you want to support it for 2 years, which is not long enough imo. But the point is, this is not an MMO. Don't make me grind for months and shorten the time I would be able to experience your seasonal content.

Thank you.

One tip for quick leveling:

Get item: Meme Virus

Get: 110 Fate

Then go tarot max dificulty or pre max...  1/3 exp bar per run, clear all mobs per map.

100% agree!!!!

If u reach lvl 50 after 10h there would be too much posts like “reached max level, what now?“

Why everyone think its a race?  :-(

Just slow down and enjoy the purge .... :-)

In my optinion its not even slow enought. To gain a lvl should be something special. But there is nothing special when u dont need time for it.

Remember for example in Classic WoW the first mount... it costs months!!!! But it was a very good feeling if u finally got it. Nowadays its worthless and nothing special.

totally get what you mean Nalchal :D there are many games where I really enjoyed the leveling process. In all honesty, I usually prefer the leveling process over "end game" repetition. I have severe alt-itis, and I usually have 10+ toons before my first one hits level cap, just to enjoy the story and try new builds.

However, this game feel different, and I think allot of it has to do with the fact that outside of your unlocks with each level, nothing in-between level 5 or so and level 50 feels interesting. The gear is somewhat irrelevant...you simply equip whatever has the best power level and move on. I've kept a few pieces for X resist or Y stat, but eventually the need for power points outweighs the benefit of a random stat.

Crafting could be fun, but again, unless your salvaging components, gaining materials is slow. base materials comes pretty fast, but most of the base crafted items aren't any better then the greens you find on missions. Sure, it may be the one gear type i want, and I have done this a few times so far, but it doesn't spark me as "oh boy, i get to craft some more!" it's more like, "meh, i guess i should craft another X. Mine is about 5 power levels too low". Most the decent recipes cost materials that simply aren't dropping for me, and to salvage the items necessary I would lose out on fate points from selling them (one of the bad parts of the gearing system). Should I mention how rare getting those purple recipes is? not a bad thing to look forward to, but when they still have little impact on leveling...

The only thing to really look forward to is the story and missions. and in spite of how much I enjoy the interesting art and areas, they do eventually get repetetive, and the current story only goes so far. Perhaps once the seasons start opening up there will be more story to give us something to look foward to. But currently the game itself seems very weighted towards end game, and it makes the trip there feel very tedius and honestly boring at times. And this is coming from a guy that has severe alt-itis and normally enjoys leveling new alts! when you combine that with the speed of leveling, it feels like a chore instead of an enjoyable thing. And I usually enjoy that chore, just not here.

How is it even possible to play on Impossible Mode? I will imagine you have to be in a group if you are to take on a Mission in Impossible Mode.

And regarding XP pts or Rank pts as it´s called, doesn´t change whether you play on Normal or Impossible Mode. If the Mission is giving you 545 Rank pts, you GET 545 Rank pts whether you play Normal or Impossible. The only difference in Difficulties change is the pts of Fate, Cash and Glory you will receive. Nothing else. The only exception is of course if you have that 100% XP Boost.

But the thing I wonder about is... Do you get MORE experience if you are playing in a Group? Or does it not matter whether you´re in a group or alone?

5 years 291 days ago

Well, if you play Tarot missions on "Impossible"-Mode + 100% XP buff for the next 5 missions, you will get 10K+ XP depending on your current lvl and gear score. (With a psyker and AoE it was pretty easy for most of the missions.)

As far as i understood it currently the main bulk of leveling xp is gained from the story missions. The next best way to earn bulk xp is Tarots (at the hardest difficulty you can muster) and Priority assignments, this is usually done after you run out of story missions. Failing all of the above high PL missions with a low PL char (groups are best still i think if you have a high lvl host and 3 low lvls for xp gains)

As for the fate farm what is the gain you earn for running grey missions in a system you are way over power lvl for?

You should still earn between 5-8 Fate for a mission at PL150 even if you are PL900 afaik, these can be rushed in less than 3 min lowering the time taken to get to running that 100 fate needed for the XP from Tarot.

Agreed not the best gains in xp from regular missions doing it this way though.

for a long long time ago, where i was yung i played dark age of camelot. the first mmorpg. and i need 12 months with my runemaster to reach 50 :D

i will dont have the "diablo effekt" i have played for an while and it was fun, but was quick on a point where iot was very boring.

go in a grater rift> collekt the same stuff in better than yet> make a grater grater rift> collekt the same stuff in better than yet>go in a grater grater rift>.......

at one point i say : okay.. make another thing with other stuff and skills. and i seee..... it dont works because diablo say to me: nooooo you must have that and that stuff to make the challunge...

that is the point i like martyr. online events, every weapon (so every skill) is in any option good and works. investigations with different races and it will become more.

i say not: määähh im not 50.

i say: hmmmm what i will do today.

Normal Missions simply give too less EXP and Fate, they feel kind of pointless to me.

Levelling is so slowly and this and that and all. But yeah, it does take some time, and it wouldn´t be a bad idea to make you get x% extra XP pts for each enemy you take out in addition to the set ones.

But the thing is there are players out there who is already Level 50, and they were level 50 after only 2-3 days after release of game. Just check the Leaderboards. One could begin thinking if this is 110% pure dedication to the game or is it plain out totally cheating. One could actually begin to wonder if it actually is.

I´m not even close to Level 50 yet. But getting there, slowly. I will be Lvl 50 till next week.

TLDR: I agree.

I've finished all the campaign missions and am currently 38 nearly 39. With each mission giving approx 550 rank xp I need about 20missions to level. Other games with slow leveling experiences sometimes mitigate this with loot. The slow leveing would be somewhat better if we were also grinding for meaningful loot, both more important and interesting than it is currently.

Loot at the moment is completely meaningless (at least before max level) and to be frank, uninspiring. After watching some videos Neocore has released, it's clear they've had feedback on this already so I'll leave that there.

At the moment, the only way I can see myself leveling further is checking the store every hour for the new 'Meme Virus' 100% xp boost and using it on impossible difficulty Tarot missions. Anything other than that is too much time and effort for what is currently very little, to almost no reward. It's clear something needs to be done.

I totally agree that this is a problem,

but it is already much less severe than in alpha, where normal missions gave you so insanely little xp that tarot missions were your one and only way of leveling, besides the campaign ofc.

You got more XP in alpha then now on live because you were able to speedfarm everything that had mission objektives ;).

I think an easy fix would be to make killing enemies actually reward a worthwhile amount of experience. Leaving chaos scum alive just to do the objectives is blasphemy!
5 years 293 days ago
I agree. Leveling is far too slow. I like the option of bonus XP for kill streaks (or even other ingame actions), I could also see a higher drop rate for the XP bonus tokens. I've got one from a random chest, having more of those would definitely help.

In addition to the damage and resistance multiplier from power level it would be a very easy fix to add an experience multiplier. Therefore killing more enemies and so forth would give more experience doing harder quests. I think this would speed up levelling and make people wanting the challenge get a better reward.
