How to "end" a seasonal journey?

I completed the "Season of Malediction" yesterday, did everything, and now wonder how I can "end" the season like for previous seasons.

Is there no way to convert this character to a "normal" character, have I missed something?

I think its the intention that they are permanently seasonal. With every season being playable and seasonal content being available out of seasons, this assures you have a character to play with in multiplayer in that season if someone started late.
