- UPDATE: Shard Crafting - 1st Combine is fine but then...
When I combine Shards on the Shard Crafting panel, the first combine works fine. Subsequent combines attempts make the sound effect when I click the hammer button but do not debit credits, do not make the new shard, do not debit the stack of lesser shards.
Workarounds:
If I take a mission then play it or abort it , once back to the Command Bridge I can do one combine, but subsequent combines fail in the same way.
If I quit out to the Character Selection screen then go back to the Command Bridge, I can do one combine, but subsequent combines fail in the same way. This method is the quickest workaround , but still tedious.
I'm playing via Steam on PC.
Thank you!

I just learned how to split a stack by holding CTRL and left-click drag.
By splitting stacks I can reliably do shard combines - but I must split a stack down to the exact number required to make the next higher tier.
Grab a stack of 11 tier 2 shards & try to combine - NO GO: same problem as my original post.
Split off 5, put the 6 back in my vault - combine to a single tier 3 shard works fine.
Removed a stack of 13 Tier 2 shards from vault.
Split the stack three ways - 5, 5, 3.
Successfully created two Tier 3 shards in a row.
Set this current order state as My default.
