I'm trying to play online with my friend on PS4. However, we are unable to play a single mission because player 2 gets disconnected pretty much as soon as the players have agreed on a mission. The host gets to see the loadscreen and enters the selected mission as usually. The second player gets the message "You have been disconnected from the server. In-game progression has been lost and you will be returned to the Command Bridge."

The only reason I can think of is that we are on a different region (I'm on NA and he is on EU) ?  We are both based in EU but I don't see any way to change this. How do we solve this issue?
