Player Energy Shields are not affected by resistances, only by damage reduction. Is this by design, or a bug?

For, if it's by design, then the enemy shields should definitely not be affected either by armor type status, or by resistances.

Hey, I'd asked something similar before, here's a link

To save you a click, here's what a dev said:

"No, they (energy shields) do not benefit from damage reduction. The current core mechanism would make it extra difficult to have the energy shields benefit from them."

So it seems like it's by design that they do not gain any benefit
